Sleep is an act of trust

Tonight I went to bed early, without resisting, and I thought about how brave it is to sleep.

Because sleep is, deep down, letting go of control. Letting the body do what it has known how to do for millennia, without our supervision. Trusting that the world will keep turning even though we switch off for a few hours.

For years I slept badly. I went to bed with my head full of lists, pending conversations, plans. Sleep was one more obligation, a task I failed at every night.

Until I understood that insomnia is almost never about the body. It is about the mind, which does not know how to stop because it has learned that stopping is dangerous.

Now I prepare the night like a small ritual. I turn off the lights, open the window for a moment, let the cool air in. And I tell myself: you have done enough today. The rest can wait.

Sleep is an act of trust in life. And every night I manage to surrender to sleep, it is a night in which I tell my body: I trust you, I trust the process, I trust that tomorrow there will be light too.
